The backyard is openly seen by neighbors all around.
The area used to be a vegetable garden.
I don’t know anything about landscaping!
I don’t have much money to spend!
Central Illinois climate
Don’t want any water features
Yes, get RID OF the railroad ties! They are nasty, ugly and dated. They also attract carpenter ants and other icky, bad for your yard/house things. The longer they sit there….the harder they are to remove. Being a veggie garden once, your soil should be great. I’d plant grass. You could even cut flower beds out around the edges. Maybe plant some privacy tree’s or bushes. Or put up a lattice divider to block their view. Without seeing the area, the ideas are endless. Good luck! Oh, my suggestion….do it up right the first time. Spend the extra time and money to make it exactly how you want. That way you wont always be wishing for changes.
keep it a vegetable garden
it really doesn’t take a lot of effort
you just need to water once in a while
even if you don’t weed it, you will still get vegetables
you will get a lot of pride out of what gets produced in your garden
I’m talking less than 20 bucks for transplants and 5 bucks for seed
