Short evergreen bushes will spruce it up along the edge. A fire bush is very pretty, too. You might even try a flowering bush or two. Maybe a magnolia tree would spruce it up. St. Augustine grass is durable with dogs.

try a couple of lawn chaires and a grill that will make your back yard look like one and the first guy had some good idears.

fence off part of your yard for the dogs and then you can have a landscape for you to enjoy.

    Hi:
I am a landscaper and designer and you are not alone with being on a budget. Most people today are on budgets and one thing I suggest to my clients is to consider phase planting. When you landscape, think about planning - prepping and then planting. I will link you to this page of my website. It is an easy method that may help you with the entire process.

Evergreen trees and shrubs are low maintenance and becomming very popular. You might want to consider a separate area for you dogs. I have two dogs and know what you mean. You can do this with some inexpensive material, and this will separate your dogs from the area you want to enjoy. Think about doing a couple of beds for youself. I will link you to the gallery of plants section. There are many photos, brief descriptions and climate zones. You may be able to get some ideas for your landscape.

I will also link you to the site map, as this page has everything that is on the website. There are designs, articles, tips and techniques. When you plan your landscape project, think about your own personality, your favorite colors and other outdoor features. Enhancing your outdoor featues with matching color tones of plant specimens, will add a lot to your yard. I hope this information will be of some use to you. If you need any more suggestions, contact me and I would be happy to help. Good luck to you and have a great day!

Join a garden club. Often they have plant swaps and a wealth of knowledge to help with all your questions. Best of all they’re free and you’ll meet new people from all walks of life and they don’t make you attend every meeting. Good luck!

I have three dogs and am always on a budget too. The dogs do dig up or lay on anything small. I have never had to replant a shrub or tree because of them. Don’t know where you live so I’m not going to suggest plants. I like to catch any end of season sales at the garden centers. I have to be honest most of my plants I have got for free. I’m a landscape designer and and anytime someone I work for changes out the landscaping I can try to save whatever I want. I have a lot of plants now. If you know someone who does this type of work I’m sure you could get some that way also. You have to take what you can get but it can work. And it’s no loss if something dies or is murdered. When I plant I like to stay around the edges of the yard mostly and around the house I do this to keep as much of the yard open for our 3 children and 3 dogs to play. I don’t do straight lines, always soft curves. Also dogs tend to stay away from things with thorns. Lately I’ve been trying to get a few smaller things to grow so I’ve put a ring of barb wire around each one. So far so good. I also use hot chilli powder and pepper. I try to alternate what I’m doing and just see what works best. Hope something here helps.

first of all, you need to train your dogs. i have done this, my dog knows not to go into my flower beds, she’s great. and if your not in a big hurry, wait until everyong else has purchased their flowers, then they go on sale really cheap. also every mothers day, all i asked from my children is a flat of flowers, i have three children, oh what fun i have when i plant them on mothers day. then the flowers in the stores go on sale, and i buy them cheap to fill in. have fun

I can’t really give you any specific plants because i don’t know what zone you live in. Have a plan for everything you want. Draw a plan for your entire area. Since you are on a budget just do a section at a time so you get everything you want and when you can afford to do another section or step do it. If you are going to plant trees make that your first step. If you are going to have a birm along the rear of your property make the birm a step. Split up the backyard and do a section at a time. It never hurts to have a professionally designed plan. I can tell the difference from a homeowner design to a professional design right away. Garden centers often have a design center that will give you a design for a nominal fee and may even give you one for nothing if you buy your materials there. You may want to look into doing some retaining or freestanding walls.
